Yes, that sounds like a great first 7 days. I would make sure you are getting at least 2-3 cups of veggies and not always just lettuce. Most people typically lose 5-10% of their weight to lose in the first 14 days, and by that measure you are well on your way to success.

Don't think of a diet as a quick weight loss program. It's a lifestyle change. If Atkins isn't going work for you as a lifestyle change, then don't do it. You can probably incorporate more carbs later on but expect to work out much more in order to burn them off. If you truly stick to the diet...it would become normal and you wouldn't crave junk. It depends. Most people lose about 10% or roughly 5 pounds in the first 2 weeks. After that it varies from 1-5 pounds per week. So it may take 4 weeks or it might take 3-4 months. Hey, I recently went to a cardiologist and he started me in a new diet. Basically no carbs from bread,sugar etc. He said eat lots of vegetables and lean meats like fish and turkey and lots of water. 150+ cholesterol is still way too high. we should aim for 70 total cholesterol. you will lose weight on pretty much any diet, but you have to see how it affects your health in the long run. high fat low carbs isn't the long term answer you are looking for.
I would challenge you to find one notable cardiologist or peer reviewed study to recommend cholesterol levels that low. Cholesterol is needed for most cellular function as our cellular structures are made mostly of cholesterol. As for long term health, my annual blood work, athletic performance, and how I feel prove you wrong. I understand you have moral reasons to be a vegan. The problem is that those aren't based in fact but beliefs.

my bad i was listening to something while typing this. we need to have LDL lower than 70, with our total cholesterol under 150. cholesterol is needed indeed, but your body makes all the cholesterol you need. you don't have to add it from your diet. as for your long term health, it's called long term for something. we'll see in the long term. having "normal" bloodwork/cholesterol in a society where it's normal to die of a heart attack at 50 doesn't say much. and i'm vegan for the planet first.
That is fact the body will make the cholesterol it needs and the vast majority of the serum cholesterol is from body sources and only miniscule about is from dietary sources. Said differently, it doesn't matter how much cholesterol you eat will not have a determinant on your total cholesterol. Eating 18 eggs a day will not raise your cholesterol at all. Add wheat to your diet (a known inflammatory), and it will raise rapidly.As for long term, that is a cop out. After nearly 10 years of eating low carb surely I would have seen deleterious effects. Otherwise, you are just playing a bogeyman. Show me a study that says people with cholesterol lower than 150 have less heart attacks than 175 or 200. Fact is some studies have shown more MIs in those with lower cholesterol than those with 200. As for being a vegan for the planet, I am glad. Your beliefs (misguided) lowers the demand and thereby the price for my meat.Here is just one study that the lowest percentile of cholesterol had the HIGHEST risk of heart disease. "Is the use of cholesterol in mortality risk algorithms in clinical guidelines valid? Ten years prospective data from the Norwegian HUNT 2 study." Among women, cholesterol had an inverse association with all-cause mortality as well as CVD mortality. The association with IHD mortality was followed a 'U-shaped' curve. When I started my cholesterol was 198. After one year, my cholesterol dropped roughly 50 points to 153 while my HDL went higher. My borderline hypertension went away. After 9 years, I am still on Atkins and at goal.

Atkins allows A on all phases. It is only the extreme few, often misguided folks that go no plants in their diets. Even on Induction, Atkins promotes vegetables and some fruits (like tomatoes).

Let's see Atkins itself has been around for 40 years, and low carbing goes back at least 110 years in fact probably longer as it was considered the default answer to simply cut down on the sugars. I will never be comfortable with giving people carte blanche to eat as much as they want but only of specific foods. That goes for fruitarians and others too.

Try 'fast and feast'. On the Atkins diet I couldn't eat a lot of the food I want to, mainly sugar. On the fast and feast diet I go one day with eating under 600 calories and the next what ever and how much ever I want. I have lost weight slowly but I really have eaten as much as I wanted on feast days. One weird thing is I know I can't eat as much at a buffet as I used to, I think the fast days have shrunk my stomach, which is a good thing.

the study added excess fat to carb heavy foods...Atkins do low carb, so that difference alone changes everything.
Meat takes a while to digest so it stays in your stomach longer. It's bulky so you won't want to eat for a while because well your dinner of meat is still in you...6 to 8 hrs. It fills you up so quick because it's so bulky. Kind of like when you eat and drink soda at the same time. The gas from the soda will take up lots of space in your stomach so you will probably not finish all of your food. At least this is my experience :).

I don't get why people put themselves through these diets. It's not easy, but as long as you cut down the unhealthy foods while replacing them with healthier foods and add exercise, you will be on track to loosing weight and feeling much better about yourself.

I have been on this diet for years. My mind is clear, my concentration has improved, my skin is great. Love it. And I lost a weight, but then the dreaded plateau occurred. I found then that b/c I was feeling better over all, I could increase my exercise. I dropped a lot more weight after. Atkins helped clear out some carbs which were harming my body such as the no flour grain husk bread which made me feel as if I were aging rapidly. All is well now.

Most people that call it unhealthy or who talk about the issues you described did not go through each of the phases. Phase one which will most likely result in withdrawal from sugar will have you feeling like crap. I lost 25 lbs on it in 2 months and I actually was on the heavy end of the healthy weight range for my height. I continued through each of the phases to maintenance. Each phase of the diet incorporates items that you previously could not have to find the right ratio.jesus christ are people this fucking gross and pig-like they can't handle eating any less than constantly?i am on the adkins diet, I lost allot of weight, and I did a nutrition check and I was fine, I dont cook my food in allot of fat, I cook my meet in water, and take only lean meat, but hey these people are only looking for a story.
that still doesn't prove that there can't be other problems caused by things like lack of fiber, or the potential for cancers based on high protein, and then there is the problem of meat often not being grown well. Keep in mind I am not trying to talk you out of it, just showing the other side of the argument and hoping that you don't believe everything is just as it seems.

The foods your eat are the key to weight loss. I've lost 4.5kg in just over a month doing no exercise. I just cut sugar from my diet. Dr Peter Attia ate the food pyramid to the letter and exercised 3 to 4 hours a day and gained weight and developed metabolic syndrome (which increases the risk of heart disease). My brother-on-law was on the Atkins diet for several years... Lost weight and kept it off. That's the good news. The bad news is that his liver couldn't handle the consent rated protien and low fiber. He died of liver cancer 3 months after being diagnosed. He kept eating those hamburgers though!
I wonder if protein (especially from animal sources?) tells the body "your food sources are limited, so don't be as hungry" because in winter people were forced to hunt for food and didn't have unlimited access to fruits/veggies as in other seasons (so you could be hungrier and eat more of them). just an idea, probably not very clear what I'm trying to say lol. But another thing is protein may not raise the blood sugar/insulin as quickly or as high like carbs do.Asians are skinny because they eat a third of the calories we do. There's definitely a lesson in that fact for us.
The conclusion that Atkins works because your appetite is controlled by eating protein does not correlate with my experience. It takes three days for the weight loss to kick in and if I eat a candy bar then my weight loss stops for three more days. If it was just a lessened appetite then my weight loss would continue as soon as I went back on the diet. Also some studies have found while people on Atkins eat more calories than people on a low fat diet they still lose more weight.

I don't think it will be long before dieticians start looking at people's genetic backgrounds to determine healthy diets, if I don't do it first.

Also, I find all these examples silly because they are all using people from different backgrounds with different genetic make ups. That means different reactions to foods from different people. I'm sure someone who's ancestors lived near herds of say, Bison, for generation after generation, would have a MUCH better reaction to meat and fat than someone who's ancestors lived in a place where fruits and plant foods where more readily available to them. IE plains indians vs hawaiian natives.
