Do you find it difficult to eat a healthy diet because you are concerned about
carbs? If you said yes then you are not alone. Now with our new Dietrine Carb
Blocker we offer a 100% safe and stimulant free natural product. Dietrine
Carb Blocker is an exclusive formulation of research-supported botanical ingredients.
How Does Our Carb Blocker Work?
During the digestive process, your body converts carbohydrates,
found in starchy foods such as potatoes and pasta, into sugar. Your body
does this by breaking-down the carbohydrate molecule with alpha amylase,
an enzyme that is produced in the pancreas.
These sugar calories are either burned off, through exercise, or stored as
fat cells for future use. Unfortunately, inactivity means that these stored
fat cells accumulate. The result is weight gain.Dietrine Carb Blocker with
Phase 2®, an exclusive, all-natural nutritional ingredient extracted from
white kidney beans, "neutralizes" the digestive enzyme alpha amylase
before it can convert starch into glucose, thereby reducing the amount of
carbs absorbed. Essentially, it allows the carbohydrates to pass through the
system with less caloric intake.* Preliminary research and clinical studies
indicate that the Phase 2® starch blocker may reduce the absorption of
starch, thereby reducing the amount of carbs absorbed, resulting in significantly
less net caloric intake.
Are Carb Blockers Safe?
Yes! our Dietrine Carb Blocker is absolutely 100% safe and effective. Dietrine Carb Blocker is 100% natural with no known side
effects. There are no known interactions with any other herbal dietary
supplement or drug. Our Carb Blocker contains no ephedra,
no ma huang, no ephedrine and no stimulants of any kind
and are extremely safe if taken as directed.
Don't Be Confused By Low-Priced Imitations!
Dietrine Carb Blocker contains 100% of the genuine Phase
2 Starch Neutralizer®. Do not be fooled by cheap products that
may contain a generic white kidney bean extract plus some Phase
2. Remember you get what you pay for!!! These products may NOT contain
100% of the Phase 2® extract and will not work as well. Our
product is manufactured in the United States of America in a fully
cGMP-compliant, certified manufacturing facility. You cannot purchase
a higher quality product anywhere, and we stand behind its potency
and effectiveness 100%.
What is Phase 2?
Phase 2® is an amazing, non-stimulant, all-natural nutritional
ingredient that is derived from the white kidney bean through a proprietary
process. As a starch blocker it is the first nutritional ingredient that
has been clinically & scientifically proven to neutralize starch,
found in your favorite foods such as potatoes, breads, pasta, rice, corn
and crackers.Phase 2® is a safe yet powerful nutritional ingredient, clinically
studied to reduce the absorption of carbohydrate calories. Phase 2® allows you to enjoy those foods that you love
without all the calories.
Dietrine Carb Blocker with Phase 2® has demonstrated clinical
efficacy through several recent U.S. university-based human studies.
Dietrine Carb Blocker with Phase 2® has demonstrated safety
through LD50 studies, the gold standard test for acute and chronic
The white kidney beans used to make Phase 2® are non-GMO (genetically

August 26, 2013. The Atkins Diet - safe, effective? - Davnet.org (http://www.davnet.org/kevin/essays/atkinsdiet.html)
If you are going to try the Atkins Diet, I strongly urge you to get the book and read it. one. For example, pregnant women (as well as some others) should not do this diet. (Ketones) and that excreting these over a long period of time will damage the Kidneys. If you go on the Atkins Diet, you may have to stay on it for life.
Comments about this video: I was losing but then I stalled for 2 days and then I have now gone up 2lbs in the last 3 days. I am going crazy. I have been under 20 carbs every day but one and that was a day I did a broccoli crust pizza and went over with all the toppings. I am still in ketosis according to the sticks. I keep track of everything that I eat. I was so happy to lose but now I am going up. I drink 6 of the 16.9 oz bottles and I even gave up my diet coke zero and haven't had one in over a week and a half :(. Could be a bit of excess sodium causing water retention. I would not change a thing other than perhaps weighing less often if it causes you stress and reweigh in a three or four days. Constant weighing will capture a lot of meaningless bounces in your weight loss that are more related to water retention than true weight gain. Keep the eye on the long term weight loss not these temporary bounces. Thank you...I know I am being obsessive. I weigh at night and in the morning. I have lost 30 lbs and so don't want to go back. I wonder if you realize how many people you help...bless you for being there. which atkins book did you read? i have the 'blue' one. i'd like to download it to my kindle. Hi, I am interested in losing a similar amount of weight, But I'm concerned about loose skin. Was this a large problem for you, and if so at how many pounds of weight loss did it begin, I would like to lose 160 LBS. Thank You in advance for any response.I posted a video on loose skin here on Youtube where I detail and show my loose skin. I have some, but not nearly as bad as I have seen elsewhere. I think that is due to the healthy nature (enough fat and protein) to help the skin repair itself. After you see that video, let me know if you have any more questions. The short answer is I would rather have the little bit of loose skin around my stomach from losing 210 pounds than stay 429 pounds and still have those serious medical condition.Question. My protein shake contains 4g. of carbs and 3g. of sugar but I also use a fiber powder that gives me 3g fiber per serving. If I use the fiber would it be okay to have my protein shakes during induction ? The shake is Top Care 100% Whey Protein and the fiber is Equate Sugar Free Fiber Powder. Thanks In Advance !No. Fiber carbs don't subtract from other foods. They can only subtract from their own total carbs.I don't understand why would someone follow a diet that follows a low carb diet.. that makes no sense at ALL.. of course your gonna feel low energy, not focus.. duhhh. What's your primary source of energy?...carbohydrates...-. This what the problem with America is. This is why Americans are still FAT.. people find way to cut corners thinking this diet is gonna work. People still believe you can loose weight by eating donuts... It's like still believing the easter bunny or Santa clause smh. Lack of energy? I run marathons on low carb. Dude, catch up with the science as you are being left far behind. My primary source of energy is fat, and it works well enough to run 5k or do HIIT or workout for 4 hours as I run a marathon.
Besides actually showing video and photos on my channel of marathons and me crossing the finish line, one can easily search finish times of marathoners. As for anyone doing a marathon, what's your best marathon time and which races have you done? I called hickory farms their deluxe gift box has 2 10oz beef sausages with zero carbs. Smoked Cheddar has 2 carbs for 10oz Jalapeno cheese has 2 carbs for 10oz and the 10oz sweet hot mustard has 2 carbs and 1 sugar per ounce. The question is not so much the carb count like this video says, but what is on the ingredient label. Carb counts only tells you how much of a legal food you can eat. The ingredients label will tell you whether or not you can eat it at the phase or rung you are on. I can't find the ingredients for their products. As a snack, they are probably not too bad, but I would hold off on their cheese for the dairy rung of OWL. It is likely "cheese food" not actual cheese, which means they have added stuff to it. Yes, but a single bad meal or a bad lifestyle can easily eliminate any value of doing pushups or squats. Live a healthy lifestyle, and do your exercise.I'm on Induction this is day 9 only one little problem! I take lots fiber, eat the recommended veggies, but nothing moves! I'm over full all the time, so I eat very little.does that make a difference? i eat flaxseed bread and is awesome! just a bit pricey when it comes to calories...but i'm fine and eat a lot of cauliflower basically. Fiber certainly helps keep you regular, but I would be cautious about any commercial flax bread as the ingredients might not be all Induction friendly. I have posted an easy 2 minute flax bread recipe here that is Induction legal though. So really, what about the weakness and tiredness? I had this nasty headache and I'm not sure if it has to do with the diet... Either way, when does it get better?
Yes, it is likely diet related. Check out my Induction flu video on ideas on how to help the headache and fatigue go away. It is temporary, but taking 1-2 cups of chicken broth (for sodium) and using salt substitute (like Morton LiteSalt) for Potassium will help immensely. great vids! Was on Atkins about 8 years ago with great success...didn't keep up or watch what I was eating..guess I thought once the weight was gone I was done...won't make that mistake again! So today I started again, please continue to post your helpful advice, it really keeps my motivation up, which I will def need over the next 2 weeks especially!I am glad I could help. I should have a bunch more coming between now and the end of the year, so stay tuned. I also wanted to wish you the best. 7 years later, I am still amazed by the energy I have every day. been on it 4 days 11lbs off is that about right? only thing is i seem to be eating the same things, is there anywhere to get recipe's for the induction phase. thanks for setting this channel up bowulf.
The amount lost on induction is different for everyone. It is largely dependent on the amount to lose, and if you've done Induction before. It won't always be that fast, but that is a really good start. For Induction Friendly recipes, do a search on here for "Atkins Diet Recipes (IF)." I tag or title all my recipes that I have posted here with (IF) in the title that are Induction Friendly.
I have been off and on Atkins for the past 40 yrs. I usually get IF when I begin the crash course. I am on day 21 and paying careful attention to carbs and trying to stay under 15 carbs a day. Is anyone reading here who has been on induction for long periods of time ? What are your experiences ? Any you guys on farsebook ? Proud of you ,Kent...
Check out my latest videos, and you'll see a link to my facebook site. It's a good way to communicate with other viewers. I did Induction for roughly 12 months. You can certainly do it a long time without any negative side effects.
This video is a great reminder with good information. I have these attachments hanging on the refrigerator with the AMOUNTS you can eat yellow highlighted. I encourage everyone doing Atkins to do the same while on inductions.
That is a good idea about the fridge as there are many things like number of fluid oz of cream or lemon juice, number of olives, or the allowable amount of sour cream that I would find difficult to remember always. hey again :) so i'm now in week 6 of my aitkens journey and have lost 27 pounds so far, is this a good start ?? I was wondering how fast the weight came off for u ?? also i havent started any real exercise yet, just following the induction phase...as always thanks for ur videos they help more than anything i have found online, luv from Scotland xxxxxxxx. I lost at about 4 pounds a week, but that is just what mine was. It isn't necessarily better or worse than what others have done. I think your progress is great, and you are well on the way on to goal. Keep following the plan like you have been, and keep checking to see if you should be progressing to the next phase OWL or not. Thanks for watching! i gotta work out and i gotta donate so dont say stop, and dont say you should be getting enough with whole food - meat cuz im not...Like I said you can do as you wish, but as I said in the other video, whey protein is not on the acceptable foods list for Induction. That's why no one potentially talks about it. As for not getting enough with real food, 2 chicken breasts can be over 100g of protein. I guess I never had a problem getting well over 150g of protein. Too much protein gets converted to glucose, which can then derail your progress by causing the insulin reaction you are attempting to avoid. good info i never knew that. i don't think the original book mentions that either but good to know. no one ever talks about protein shakes and induction I'm in induction, Im working out, and I'm donating plasma and losing protein and need to do shakes...can i just count the carbs? 6 grams carbs per 60 grams of protein, its a whey protein isolate. 2 MrArpas123 I am happy you are making a low carb recipe site, but don't spam others videos. It's rude. ok bro.. thnx a lot.. a reminder for ur visitors, i did atkins 2 years ago and went from 215 pounds to 180, looked perfect.. and thats when i started eating more carbs till i stopped atkins finally.. now i am 235.. GUYS: ATKINS IS A LIFE TIME DIET.. do not fall a victim for ur own ego when u reach to ur goal.. bowulf.. u can forget the question abt tomatos LOOOOL jst please.. tell us wt do u think abt this website, may be it ll help us all.. hey bowulf, thnx a lot for helping all of us during all this time.. i want to ask you about red tomatos, is that ok ? i found this web site about nutritions facts caloriecount.about.com all u have to do is to put the item u want to know about in the search and it will list the nutrition facts.. can we trust it ? it seems so professional.. thnx a lot bro. Tomatoes are fine. They are limited though to roughly 1 cup per day. I do use a website similar to that for information as well. Occasionally there will be some differences with what Atkins carb counters say and those books, but for the most part, I would rely upon it. I personally use fitday.com to track my info.bowulf if you lived in the san antonio area and you were here on youtube saying that you work at the fire dept. here in sa...I would call you to my house just to PISS you off! Your to nice and innocent so yeah I would call you over just to stress you out! >=D. nah I know most of the cops so yeah.. that wouldn't help you >=D I just annoy by saying "yeah I watched that creepy movie named Beowolf, and it scared the be jesus out of me! AHH my heart!". I never understood the cheese restriction. when I look up the nutritional profile for cheese, many cheeses, like Monterey Jack, Muenster, or Manchego have zero carbs, and the cheeses that do have carbs, like Cheddar, Goat or Parmesan, have it in such miniscule quantities (as little as 0.4 grams of carbs per oz). So why the severe restriction? Why would it lead to weight gain? Why only 4 oz per day?Yep, that's it not the 22 hour day fighting a fire and lack of sleep. Or perhaps it is dealing with biased, web trolls. Good luck! Wow, you are a real inspiration! Amazing to see how well you've done and how far you've come. Huge congratulations! I hope to learn more from you about the Atkins Diet. + 1 new subscriber :). Its says unlimited amounts of meat of some atkins documents I have read..is that true? I still feel really hungry how long before that ends on induction and should I be exercising..did you exercise? I only been on for 5 days I have not weighed myself I want to wait after induction..but anyway my real question is what time should you stop eating.is it after 6pm or can I have a late night no carb snack..and is canned sardines ok..lol..sorry real random. The books actually say eat liberally or until satiated. Not quite unlimited, but the limit is your own body telling you no more. If you are hungry no matter the time on Induction, eat eat something legal. If that is 10 pm at night or 7 am in the morning, if your body is honestly hungry, eat something - a ounce of cheese, chicken breast, etc. On Induction for the first 4 weeks I did not exercise=eating right is more important. Since then I exercise 5-7 days a week.
September 1, 2013. how long should you stay on the atkins diet - Ask Community (http://www.ask.com/answers/140051081/how-long-shoul d-you-stay-on-the-atkins-diet)
When utilizing the actual Dr. Atkins low carbohydrate diet and not a knock off diet, the intention of Dr. Atkins was for a person to stay on the diet for their entire
Comments about this video: Hi Kent, I was wondering about your opinion of cheat days or refeed days. On previous diets I found that they were good motivators to be good all week and I work well on a reward system. I find that with nothing to look forward to i get discouraged. Other than throwing you out of ketosis for a couple of days, how much would a cheat day every 2 weeks or so slow down weight loss and would that just perpetuate the cravings for naughty foods? For me cheat days or refeed days would have been disastrous. I would have constantly been reawakening the cravings and would have generally migrated to more off days than on days. For me a steady approach was the greatest way for success. Equating foods with rewards is also a tricky situation mentally and perhaps one of the reasons I was heavy in the first place. Dr. Westman said on the Low Carb Cruise it can take up to 5-10 days after a cheat to get to the same level of ketosis.
The best video that I talk about this and in the video description provide links to the actual documents is called "Can I eat this on Induction?" I give two documents the Acceptable Foods List for Induction and the rules for Induction. That should answer your question better than I could in 500 letters or less.
Is weird that I'm feeling better and have more energy then I did before starting my Atkins diet? I do take a multi-vitamin daily and I drink alot of water. I lost 7 pounds in my first three days. The only bad thing I have been experiencing is headaches. I did cheat today. I was wondering if I going to throw my diet off belance? It was a small square of chocolate. It had 2 carbs. But worried cause it had sugar. Your help would appreicated.
Obviously cheating can cause the cravings to return. It is unlikely that the single 2g of extra carbs hurt you in the long run, but continuing the cheat will. The best thing to do is just return to where you were, and if you feel, you must do something go for a walk. As for the headaches, make sure you are getting enough sodium in your diet. Low electrolytes will definitely cause problems like headaches and fatigue.
You say before you go into on going weightloss... do you mean introducting carbs and more food choices besides just protein? What if I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and also go to the gym every day to every other day (now, not in the past). Do I need to be cafeful of the induction phase? Or should I just do low carbs, still having good carbs for my activitiy? SOrry to the other guy I accidentally replied off of then deleted the comment :) You probably got this in your inbox. :).
Ongoing Weight Loss is the second phase of the Atkins Diet. (There are 4 phases.) You add a variety of foods in rungs and progress through them until you have added back all the foods you intend to eat long term. You also add 5g carbs more per week until you stop losing. The only thing to be concerned about is ensuring enough electrolytes. You don't need the carbs for the activity. Initially, you might feel less energy, but you'll acclimate within 2-3 weeks. What drives me insane is when people on Low Carb boards say you can't have caffeine, you can't have aspertame, and even sucralose will hinder Ketosis during induction. So that pretty much prevents any type of drink that will wake you up in the morning, and also prevents you from getting Electrolytes since they're in the drinks that have either Caffeine, Aspertame, or Sucralose! :) I did read one page that said those ingredients don't have an effect on all people doing induction 2 reach ketosis. There are some who are sensitive to all those things you mentioned, but others can get by with having a little or a lot. Sometimes those in forums and I am one of them at times recommend based upon what works for almost everybody to guarantee success as opposed to always tagging YMMV on our statements. For electrolytes there are a few options you could use without the artificial sweeteners (I have even posted my own recipe in one of the videos), but a commercial option is endurolytes. 2 aquafinabo You need to check your dictionary. It is pronounced OFF-en no 't' sound. What a nit-picker. This man is trying to help us and you latch on to something he pronounces differently from the way YOU say it...and you are wrong anyway!Ugh, I have no energy on Atkins at one week, I feel awful, can hardly walk to the store and I feel nauseous all of the time. I'll stick it out for another week, then I'm done. Nutritionist say it is not safe to be in induction for more than 6 weeks anyway. You might think about adding some sodium and potassium into your diet. Your electrolytes might be too low. According to Dr. Atkins, one can be on Induction to do it for 6 months or more, but really it is up to the individual. If you dislike the food choices, progress to OWL you open a whole new food groups as progress up with carbs. im confused about the induction. in dr. atkins 2002 book he says you can have 2 cups of lettuce and one cup of none starch veggie like broccoli. well thats only 6 grams or so. where do you get the rest of carbs other than cheese?
Salad Veggies don't simply equal lettuce. They include veggies like peppers or cucumbers. With 2 cups of peppers and one cup of tomatoes, you are over 20g per day. As for other locations of carbs, eggs, dairy sour cream, cream, cheese, etc., salad dressing, snack items like avocado or olives all have carbs in them. Complain to Merriam Webster or English language gurus, the suggest phonetics for the word "often" are: aw-fuhn, of-uhn; awf-tuhn The "T" is not necessarily silent.Sorry to get on your case about it. It's just that the trend is pissing me off. I never heard people say off-ten until relatively recently. I appreciate all your Atkins videos, though, dude. Thanks for making them. I actually think I have said it that way for years, but no harm... It's not the first time pronunciation has been brought up in my videos. I am pretty sure most people in NW Iowa pronounce the "T", but what do we know we're Dutch. Yeah, it probably does have to do with the area of the country you're in. Sorry for mentioning it. I'm just starting the Atkins diet, and your videos have helped me a lot. :). There is a Pizza place in Gilman, IL called Pizza Palace and THEY have a low carb pizza... they cook the cheese a certain way and make that the crust then they add a sauce, the toppings and more cheese... it is indeed DELICIOUS!
I was so disappointed with Godfather's gluten free pizza wasn't low carb friendly being made with rice flour. It's good to know there are some out there that are accomodating our diet. Just wish it was closer to Des Moines... :-D. The good news is you know why it happened, and how to prevent it in the future. I would say however you would want to do 14 days clean first before progressing OWL. It lets you know you can indeed control your eating and what enters your mouth.I have been following a STRICT induction for 8 weeks. I weighed 298 when I started (female) and in the first 6 weeks I lost a total of 30 lbs. I have not been able to budge that scale at all in the past 2 weeks! I'm eating at MOST 1,500 calories per day...some days only 800. Do you think my little stall could mean it's time to move on to OWL? I'm having a really hard time finding induction foods that are high in calories. Any suggestions? Thank you for the support you are very knowledgable in the atkins ways Been on induction for 30 days and 16lbs gone I am also weight training as I have been for a while before what should u use for a shake afterworkouts while in induction besides the atkins shakes.
If you are in Induction, you should not be having any shakes. (Atkins ones are debatable, but I fall on the no side.) During the OWL phase you can add them back into your diet, but real food should be the imperative. The protein you'd find in a shake can certainly be found in real food (eggs, meat, etc) as well. I would experiment with different vegetables like only peppers or mushrooms for a few days and excluding the higher carb vegetables like onions / tomatoes from the experiment. It is less advisable to start adding more dairy as that has been more problematic generally than vegetables.Usually if you ask for a annual physical blood workand urinalysis, they'll get everything they need. Things you should be looking for are obviously lipids panel (cholesterol), globulin - liver, BUN - kidney, blood glucose levels after fasting, A1C-diabetes, etc. They are certainly others, but those are the majors I can remember from mine in Jan.is it ok to snack on cheese too and does it affect my weight loss as im eating in between meals during induction/?Google "Atkins Induction Acceptable Foods List." Oils are all allowed. Heavy Cream is allowed, milk is not.Not really.. If people follow the videos to my website or click the ads, there are a few dollars in my Google ads account, but mostly it is just trying to encourage others achieve the same success. If you can't read the book, watch my Induction videos or search Atkins Induction Acceptable Foods and Rules, and you should get an understanding of what you should be eating. There are so many misconceptions of what is Atkins, so it's not uncommon for these mistakes. If you are starving yourself, that is too much. If you are eating when you are hungry, eating at least 2-3 cups of veggies, and drinking your water, then the speed of weight loss matters little. It does seem a little high, but like I said, ensure you are eating when you are hungry and not dehydrated.Yep, learning how to keep the weight off is harder than trying to just drop the weight off as quickly as possible. It's good your friend discovered the difference between all the weight returned.Hey. I just want to say thank you. I got the book and started the Atkins diet. Ive lost 5 kilos already ( and i only have 5 more to lose! :D) so thanks for these vids, they help a lot!You are welcome, ad thank you for the comments. Congrats on the weight loss!!! With only 5 pounds to go, make sure you start learning the lessons that's going to keep the weight off for good. Way to go! Where's the veggies? You really should try to eat the 2-3 cups of veggies per day. Regarding the hard salami many lunch meats are highly processed and have additional sodium and carbs in them. Bear that in mind and as well. Finally, eat to the point in which you are satiated. Can you overeat on this diet? Certainly, but your body should tell you when you are done. The amounts look like a lot, but I am going to trust that you are only eating to satiation. I would wait with milk and gradually add it back until I had progressed to OWL. Milk packs a healthy carb load at 12g of sugar in 8oz. If you are looking for something less acidic, remember other dairy options are still open to you, like cream and cheese (especially cream cheese). However, during OWL you find your CCLL, and if that means you can drink 2 glasses for 24g that is certainly OK. You just need to add it gradually.Hi, Thanx in advance for your help!! I started atkins induction about 6 weeks ago and I did it for 2 weeks straight. I lost 9 pounds which is great but I havent been able to lose anything else. My weight wont change AT ALL ive been 2 161 for the last 3 weeks. So I eliminated all atkins products (just in case) and no help. I gave myself a 2 day break so that maybe I can boost my body to lose again and nothing. I just dont know what to do anymore. Please help!!! Watch my what do about a stall and the "why am I not losing videos." They may apply to your situation. To what rung did you make it to in OWL? I never started OWL, I stayed on induction because I want to get down to 140 by late oct. So I figured it would help. I just feel lost and aggravated because I dont know how my bodies working so I dont know how to adjust it. U Know?? I got so disappointed last night I gave in and made myself a huge sandwich and today I didnt start induction over. So what do u think I should do next. Ive watched both videos. Should I restart induction and go onto OWL even if I dont lose in the next 2 weeks??? I look at the disappointment obviously you can't correct past events any longer, but you can prevent them from happening again. I would go back into Induction, get my eating under control again without cravings, and then decide for myself on where to head next. About why no losses, start recording what you are eating like the video said, and we can perhaps spot what is going on. Stopping the convenience and sugar alcohols is a good first step, but there could be others. Buy some "KETONE" strips, or you'll never know weather or not you are burning fat or carbs(KETOSIS).They are simple litmus strips that tell you what you body is burning. Second research, research, research the carb content of the foods your eating(and watch BOWULF's videos). Unfortunately, there are hidden carbs in most processed foods. Closely moniter what you are eating and use the KETONE strips to see(and eliminate) the foods that are causing your problems. I sincerely hope this helps. It was the how much could they lose in 20 days and stick to it for the rest of their life.He did look at your videos and he learned having that quick weight lose doesn't work so he is trying the life lesson :) Thanks for your answer though. Sorry but one more question.I am not so sure about this question but my friend wants to know how much would an average person lose if they were on this plan in 20 days if they follow what you say. IF they were only on this plan for only 20 days, it would not matter. (as any losses would be temporary) If the question is how much could they lose in first 20 days of the rest of their life following the lessons the learned on the diet, the answer is "it depends." Watch one of my first videos where I deal with this question. It varies so much on the individual - most people lose 5-10% of their intended weight loss. Just out of curiousity, which type of question was it?I was wondering when you said not to have a cheat day but what if you follow the program and your strictly on the diet but maybe once every month or so you can have a cheat day where you have your cookies or your "Christmas meal" but the next day your right back on the diet.Could that be tolerated?I never did, but the real question is can you? Dr. A says cheating is the kiss of death, but some big losers like Jimmy Moore swears by them. For me, cheat days would happen more and more often, and eventually lead me back to where I started. I talk from my own experience, but there are definitely other big losers' experiences. I might be just the guy who played safe because I sensed I had a lot to lose. (healthwise). what´s actually the so called "Yogurt exception" Im thinking aboiut adding daily Kefir cups when I reach OWL.I am not a huge believer in the Yogurt exception as no one has ever tested how active the yogurt cultures are and how much glucose they consume when chilled. The exception says that the yogurt bacteria actually eat all the sugar in yogurt, and the actual carbs are actually much lower than the listed carbs due to this digestion while in transport.I have to say I started Atkin's a month ago and your videos have been a HUGE help. I love them! I was just curious having been on induction for about a month. I feel great and have had no bad reactions to induction, but for this last week I had a couple days were I had a substantial loss of appetite for anything. Even your low carb choco cake (SHOCKER!). Could it have been slight induction flu? or does it sometimes just happen? Could be Induction flu with ketosis setting in again, or it could your body's way of telling you to progress to OWL. The appetite suppression is amazing when it hits, but it is important to eat something. Watch it for a few days, and if it sticks around, start with OWL.
Thank you for the info...I fall in the later category, and am now am going to take a step up...and do on going weight loss.

Comments about this video: For someone who doesn't like to eat veggies, is it an acceptable substitute to put them in a blender and consume them that way? I know you can't juice them as that removes a lot of fiber, but I heard blending them will keep in the fiber. Yep, you can definitely blend it. It preserves all the benefits of the vegetables. For example, my caulifower chowder recipe is very good, and would be a great way to get some veggies in. Thanks for the reply! One question - must you use a normal, everyday blender or is it acceptable to use a heavy duty blender such as Nutribullet, Ninja, Vitamix, Healthmaster, etc? You can use either one. The more powerful ones won't remove any of the benefits of the vegetables unlike a juicer. Both will work fine. I can't find the video in which you demonstrate the measurement of one cup of vegetables. Was it deleted? Would it be possible for you to post the link to it here? Thank you...love your videos they are very informative. That video is called "Atkins Diet Quick Hits: Portion Sizes or what does a cup look like?" and is still posted on Youtube. It's link is here (/watch?v=g8tWeab1VTM). I am glad I could help. :-).
cup of salad vegetables. salad is fluffy, I can get three baby leaves in a cup. should I mash them down? How about tell me by weight, how much of salad greens by weight can I have? See it varies by vegetable and the denseness of them. Check out my video called "Portion sizes - what does a cup look like?" where I show what a cup of vegetables look like on a plate. It is a cup loosely packed of vegetables not packed down. Great video. There is this myth that the atkins diet restricts veggies, when in fact it encourages them. I know you said it irritates you, but I would just add a quick note that lean beef is the worst type of beef to have actually. I am a Brit living in France. Can you SHOW me what a cup of salad veg or any other looks like. Is a CUP the same as AMERICAN CUP MEASUREMENT? I lost a lot of weight on ATKINS many years ago but unfortunately slipped back to my old ways and now I am determined to START AGAIN. Love your videos. MERCI... I do this exact demonstration in a video here posted called, "Atkins Diet Quick Hits: Portion Sizes or what does a cup look like?" Yes, it is the same as the American Cup volume measurement. I would urge you to check out that video. Just put that title in the search bar. Have you ever used fitday? I'm in week two of induction and have been following your method but my carbs are super low. I'm losing, but I'm concerned that I'm not getting near 20g of carbs a day. My menu for today is 4 eggs with 1 cup spinach and an ounce of cream cheese for breakfast. Lunch- 2 cups romaine lettuce with 1 boiled egg 2 bacon strips 1 ounce shredded cheddar cheese and oil and vinegar. For dinner I was just going to eat a pork chop because I've already had my daily veggies.I used Fitday quite a bit when I was losing weight, and still have an account there. As for your veggies, yes if you are only have spinach and romaine lettuce you won't come close to 20g per day. I would encourage you to think outside of those salad or leafy vegetables for other vegetables. A few days light on veggie carbs is not serious, but when you can have things like peppers, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, jicama, radishes, etc. There is no reason to be limited to just lettuces. The lettuces are the only vegetables that can be 2 cups worth correct?? The first couple days I was eating 3 cups of broccoli, one cup per meal, but I read on a forum that this was too much broccoli even though it was only around 12 carbs (not subtracting the fiber either).. Sorry, I've been getting mixed messages from everything I've been reading.. No, sorry that is a misunderstanding of the salad veggie term. Salad veggies actually include a bunch of other vegetables check out my "Can I eat this on Induction?" for the complete list of "Salad Veggies." Here are a few: alfalfa sprouts fennel Radishes daikon romaine celery lettuce chives mushrooms peppers cucumber radicchio Arugula bokchoy escarole mache chicory Endive sorrel jicama Parsley. My favorite in that list is peppers like green bell peppers or poblano peppers, and that is one of the reasons you'll see a lot of them in my cooking. It's not about nailing it each and every day. For instance 2 cups of peppers and 1 cup of onions would be about 18g net carbs just by itself. 1 cup of peppers, 1 cup of lettuce, and 1 cup of broccoli is about 11 or 12g net carbs. The options are endless. My feeling is trying to nail half your carbs in veggies would drive me insane. Do your best to eat something other than just lettuces, and if that is 5-18g net carbs and within your daily limit, you are golden.I guess my ultimate point is that it is hard to do the three cups of veggie approach on Induction wrong. If you want to only have lettuce for the first 2 weeks, you possibly aren't eating the richest diet in the world, but it is unlikely to hurt you. It is just wise to not limit yourself needlessly to that if not necessary. But that is just my perspective. If you'd rather count your veggie carbs and eat 3 cups of broccoli or cauliflower, follow the new plan. It just wouldn't work for me.Thanks so much for your responses!! I'm sure I'll have a million more questions when OWL starts.. haha. I am just glad I can help... I know I had many of the same questions when I first started 8 years ago.If being precise and eating more than 3 cups of veggies makes the diet more palatable to you, go for it. My perspective is counting to three is much easier and thereby more likely to enable sticking to the diet as opposed to tiring of the weighing and measuring. (I eyeballed most of cups using the sizes posted in my what does a cup look like vid). Like I said, I failed at many diets due to having to measure and calculate Calories, precisely knowing one carbs seems like more of the same. The question is that precision necessary? Precision without need is just added burden. Plus the question is should one be eating 50 cups of iceberg lettuce, radishes, or whatever low carb vegetable? With the 3 cups system, all I need to know to be good is to know what type of vegetable is it and I know exactly how much of it to eat. Your way I need to know and precisely measure everything. I meant to ask if 3 cups total of canned greens and greens be alright during induction? Also, what brand and mg of psyllium husk do u use?3 cans of green beans would be too many for Induction. If I use psyllium husks, I use Sugar Free Metamucil.Thx for your amazing videos. They are gonna be life saving for me and for that I'm forever grateful. My question is,during induction ,would only eating 3 cups of greens and green beans daily be going against the 2002 induction rules? Thanks this is a relly easy way to think about it. Really got annoyed by the whatever point whatever numbers. Three cups of veggies seems easier.
This is very interesting! The New Atkins for a New You book on pg 94 recommends getting 12-15 grams carbs from veggies then says it means you can have 6 cups of salad AND up to two cups of veggies. Honestly, I have trouble eating that much. I measured out 3 cups of greens and had trouble with that! That's a lot of food. I guess bottom line is I should try to eat more veggies and do the best I can and not sweat it too much.
I must say that, coming from a country where we don't measure volume, i find it hard to go by that. I - count all the net carbs per day coming from grams of vegetables; i generally have 2 salads per day, and a very smal salad for diner and a few cooked vegetables. I find this more mathematical approach easier, because once i decide to move on to OWL i will just have to count another 5 grams of extras per day. Plus this way i vary a lot what veggies i eat. Its never just 100 radishes.
I think that is one of the joys of Atkins is that it works for both types of people. Both can be successful on the diet, and those unaccustomed to the American measurement method certainly the weight and exact carb method might be the better way to go. 2 Kissiq1618 It is up to you which plan you want to follow. I couldn't stand trying to track or nail between 12-15g each day, but others like the freedom of being able to eat more veggies potentially. Remember salad veggies aren't just lettuce, but things like peppers, cucumbers, jicama, etc.2 Kissiq1618 Remember 3 cups is a volume measurement of the total vegetable. 12-15g in comparison is just how many grams of carbs of it is. 3 cups of lettuce might be 3g of net carbs. 2 cups of peppers and 1 cup of onions might be nearly 20g of carbs. Check my what a cup looks like video for more information on what 3 cups of vegetables is. What I am having trouble with (and I have literally JUST started) is how do you know the exact amount of veggies in a big meal that is several servings? Ex: half a cabbage, a scallion, a stick of celery, and 3 small mushrooms in the recipe. It makes 6 servings. How do you figure this kind of thing out? I am serious about this, but how strict do you have to remain? I want this to be maintainable for life, and I know constant measuring is a weakness for me. Figure out or estimate what your portion size of the total is. That half cabbage (depending upon size) might be 3-4 total cups, figure one 1/6 of that amount is 1/2 cup. A single scallion is about half cup and 7g (3g Fiber), divide that amount by one sixth (1g.5g net). I'd count the carbs against my total. The portion of celery and mushrooms would be about 1/4 cup of salad veggies and negligible carbs. My suggestion would be to fill portion cups (like two cups, one cup, half cup, 1/4 cup for sauces) with anything (peas, green beans, broccoli, whatever) and pour it out on the plate. That way you can visually estimate how much you are eating. It isn't realistic for most to measure everything and sight measurement if you are honest can be roughly accurate in limiting yourself by cups or volume. Of course you can cheat this and underestimate this way, but I found it practical. 2 ParrotnPet Almost all carb measurements of vegetables are based upon volume, i.e. one cup of veggies equal this many carbs. That said in the first phase OWL, you increase the amount of already acceptable veggies by number of cups to equal 5 net grams of carbs. In the case of lettuce, you might be able to increase by 2-3 cups the first week. Or in the form of onions, you might be able to increase only by 1/2 cup the first week. Still not weighing food, the amount is still volume based. 2 ParrotnPet Almost all carb measurements of vegetables are based upon volume, i.e. one cup of veggies equal this many carbs. Still not weighing food, the amount is still volume based.Kent, I am so confused. Like you said the book says, 2 c and 1 c of vege. The website says net carbs. So, which do I go by? How am I supposed to get 25 grms of fiber with 2 c and 1 c of vege? Should I not worry about getting "enough" carbs, like the website says? I just don't see how these numbers compute... Thanks. My suggestion is to pick a standard and then stick with it. My standard is the 2002 version of the book. It worked very well (obviously) for me. I can see where new people may choose the website or the 2010 book as their standard and abide by that. I don't believe making Induction more like OWL phase is advisable, and that there is little danger of eating too few carbs if you are eating a wide variety of Induction acceptable vegetables. As you said, a cup is not a weight measurement. It's a volume measurement as cup of gold or sunflower seeds will weigh significantly different than a cup of lettuce leaves. The diet however prescribes 3 loosely-packed cups, and in the raw form if possible as some foods wilt (like Spinach). Remember this is simply a restriction in Induction, and the first step of OWL is to discover exactly how many cups you can have and still lose weight (CCLL). But then the question is - if you have 3 cups of veggies a day - how do you count the carbs for the day? You still count the carbs for the day - i.e. staying below 20 net grams of carbs, but it is difficult to overdo the carbs if eating only by the book. Sure 1 cup of onions or tomatoes might put you over if combined with higher carb salad veggies like bell peppers, but most people do not have any problem with veggies. You of course can eat too many carbs with cheese, cream, and eggs, so I still tracked mine at Fitday. I see online 2 different books for Dr. Atkings Diet Revolution. One has a white cover, and one has a red cover. Could you tell me which book is the best..or what it looks like. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! The red cover is the right one. Look for a 2002 copyright in the book cover or the ISBN number of 0060081597. That is the latest version or gold copy of the book. Thank you so much for all your videos and wonderful information. I am starting today. I agree with your hypothesis. One thing I'm still confused about after reading all the posts. How many carbs will I have left over after eating the 3 cups of veggies so I will know when I get to 20 since I'm not weighing every single vegetable? As for how many carbs will be leftover after eating 3 cups, it all depends on what vegetables you eat. If you eat 3 cups of salad veggies like peppers or lettuces, you could have 16g of carbs left over due to their high carb count. Or alternatively if you had 2 cups of jicama and 1 cup of onions, you may only have 1 or 2g carbs left. You will still need to count the total, but the individual need to count veggies is not as high. Great vid. I don't count my carbs either. It has become 2nd nature for me. Some days I might eat 10 to 15 carbs and other days it might be up to 30 ( I am not on induction anymore) I still have like 50 lbs to lose but losing slower is ok with me. I have now lost 90 lbs. yaya. Thanks for all the wonderful info. =).
I would say that as long as you DO IT, either way is ok. I always try to eat the highest fiber lowest starch veggie that I ACTUALLY ENJOY. 3 cups from the list will keep your carbs low, but try to think how can I get max nutrition from these 3 cups. Spinach is way more nutritious and fiber that iceberg, and kale is way more than Spinach, but kale is yucky in my opinion. For me personally, I just eat as much as I want of the non starchy veggies and the fat just falls right off. I do specifically try to get more nutritious veggies than simply the lowest carb ones, but as you pointed out it is a matter of taste. That is one of the reason most should progress to OWL as soon as possible as things like cauliflower or broccoli (Delicious cruciferous vegetables) can be had in greater abundance. Roasted onions are almost like candy to the Atkins Dieter tongue. It's unique how your tastes change on LC. Maybe not within the first 14 days of Induction, but in time they do.I do think that if people can get into ketosis ASAP they will find that their hunger pangs and craving will go away much faster. I also think that fiber is very important, especially in this type of diet. I'm talking about natural fiber from veggies, not what people put down as fiber on the low carb snack bars or low carb tortillas. Also eating foods that are naturally higher in fat like beef and eggs, as opposed to chicken and fish, will help you get in the zone as well in quick fashion.I did my Induction phase following the guidelines on the Atkins website. After I finished induction, I got my hands on the book. I noticed the discrepancy with the veggie allowance after I was finished. Oops. :) But I had a successful induction (8 pound loss) I did have me curious as to the difference between the DANDR book and the website. Thanks for bringing this up. I think it really just points to that either can work as you proved, so I don't think you have anything to regret. You did very well with the information you had. I think this is just one of those tips of the iceberg between where ANA is going (I am told 2010 holds some considerable changes) and what DANDR says. Thanks for watching!
